Tate Modern features artist from a psychiatric institution

She draws, sculpts, paints and takes photos, and uses a number of found items and different types of media to illustrate her canvases. Her art is inspired by more than three decades of living in a psychiatric institution - entirely by choice.
"Much of her work has been marked with obsessiveness and a desire to escape from psychological trauma," the exhibition's website says. "In an attempt to share her experiences, she creates installations that immerse the viewer in her obsessively charged vision of endless dots and nets or infinitely mirrored space."
Kusama has been influenced by several '60s artists, including Andy Warhol and Joseph Cornell. Her creations are incredibly unique and art enthusiasts should not miss out on the opportunity to see this extensive exhibition, which is on display through 2012.
