Traveling theater troupe comes to Paris

France has a wealth of arts to explore on its own, but those on a Paris vacation this summer have the opportunity to discover Italian culture as well with Arenes de Montmartre, a traveling theater that will be featured for three weeks.
While the plays are French in heritage, the tradition of the traveling theater troupe comes from the Italian "commedia dell'arte" custom, in which actors would take part in "the comedy of the craft." They would travel around the country performing improvised sketches, as it was the only way they could achieve fame and become financially secure.
Most events will take place at the Mystere Bouffe Theatre Company, which will be featuring masters of the art throughout the festival. Tourists will be able to enjoy the many street performers around town as well.
Those who are interested in attending the comedy shows can bring their whole family, as there are performances for travelers of all ages in August to September. The Arenes de Montmartre is accessible via the Metro to Abesses station.
